I went to the dentist today since I've noticed some issues (I haven't gone in 15 years). Good news, no cavities. Bad news? Gum disease and a verrrry expensive cleaning treatment that I'll need to redo every 3 months for at least the next year 😭 Apparently 40% of americans have periodontitis and many don't know about it. End stage of the disease, the bones in your jaw disintegrate and your teeth fall out 💀 WTF I don't want that to happen!!! 🦷🪥 Time to get to work...

I'm pretty happy with the progress I've made with myAstro Book Tracker! I wanted to create tool for myself so that in case storygraph ever goes down, I have all my reading data in a format that's portable. Of course, it uses Netlify hosting, functions, and blob functionality so it's not really a "static" site. But honestly I wasn't aiming for static this time, just something I could easily use as a reading tracker. I'll probably use this and storygraph simultaneously for now to see how things go.

Every so often I get a bout of insomnia where there's nothing I can do to make myself sleep faster. Usually it's because I'm "uncomfortable" in some way, but sometimes it's just because I've missed the sleep window. After that, there's nothing left to do but tire myself out. Reading fanfics at in the wee hours is great activity for that purpose. I fell asleep around 5 am today.

I hope this is the last migration in a while for my website... I have an art blog on tumblr that I've only had a redirect setup for cause it costs money just to connect a domain (8 bucks a year!). It's not that much, but I wanted full control over my blog and content. I exported my blog and converted it to markdown posts that I can use with Astro. I have a new site setup athttps://art.pomnavi.net I might tweak some stuff here or there, but I'm satisfied with it overall!

Okay that took a LONG time, but I finally migrated everything to the new Astro-based site! Excited to be able to update mylight novel blogfrom anywhere. I also went through and compressed all the images I was using, so the site should load much faster now. I'm not too worried about the space allowances for my repo either. Nearly 90 light novel covers only amounted to 15mb after webp compression with squoosh, which is crazy. My Publii blog was like 4gb with all the high quality images and responsive sizes (most of that was my fault for wanting to use REALLY high-res stuff though).

I decided that I needed to reformat myanime rounduppost template since I wanted to create amaster list of animereviewed on the site. The old table format using markdown wasn't working since I wanted to be able to link to every anime impression individually on the masterlist. My initial idea of tagging every series reviewed makes my tag list look messy and annoying to maintain, since I'm not giving every anime it's own blog post similar to the books and games. I don't want to do that since I don't have that much to say, plus I don't want to spam posts at the end of the season (my medialog would just become filled with anime posts). Of course, another option would have been to createanotherside blog, but no I'm not doing that lol. I have enough blogs already!

High quality animation like JJK and Demon Slayer is great, but I feel like we lost something when we stopped getting longer, decompressed anime series. I'm watching Toriko right now and there are so many unfortunate changes due to the adaptation being more "kid friendly", but it's comforting to have the episodes not take so much "energy" to watch. I can casually watch Toriko. I can't casually watch Agents of the 4 Seasons or Marriagetoxin, I need to be in the mindset to appreciate everything about the animation, music, etc.

I was debating getting a bigger eink tablet for manga for SO long (over 3 years) but it was so expensive I could never justify it. I initially thought my Kobo Libra Colour would be big enough to read manga, but I'm so used to reading at a bigger size now, I don't enjoy it since I can't see all the details as easily. Tbh it really hasn't gone down in price, but I had some gift cards, plus my current Samsung tablet has been struggling with ghosting and lag recently. It feels a little excessive to have 3 ereaders, but they all fill different niches lol. Xteink for outside portability, Kobo Libra Colour as my main reader, and Boox Note Air5c for manga reading. They all work on different software too, which is fun.

Since I decided to create an archive of stories and articles that I want to save usingReadeck, I also wanted create a way to easily read those articles/fics on my ereaders. For my XTeink X4, it's as simple as adding the Readeck OPDS details to my crosspoint settings. However for Kobo, I had to create a custom "Readeck OPDS" browser that runs on my server. It's not that elegant (and it exposes all of your saved stuff, so not ideal) but it's working really well!

My XTeink X4 finallycame in!!! And thank god it's not defective like the ones I've seen on the reddit. 😅 Now I just have to wait for the next crosspoint update to have my ultimate setup with multiple OPDS servers. I've been testing grimmory and the ebook downloads and koreader sync have been working super well. Once I can add my instapaper opds server, I'll be able to read articles and fic easy peasy. My first impressions are that it's very readable despite how small it is, and the "low" DPI doesn't bother me at all.

WoohooI got Grimmory up and working! It's been working super well, and I really like that it supplements my kobo as it is, no need to mess around with OPDS or KOreader (which crashed my kobo and force logged me out :C). I tried a bunch of other opds softwares, but the integration with Kobo is unappealing and clunky. Plus for Kobo, I'm a KOreader hater since I kind of hate how it looks lol. The stock OS is way nicer.

I got a couple new followers on my blogging alt but I'm sure they'll unfollow when they realize I'm not really a tech blogger lol. Honestly my bigger worry is someone using what I write as a guide, since it's not very comprehensive. I feel like an imposter since I was only able to setup my server with the help of AI. Many of the guides that are written assume you know so much about terminal commands and docker already, it was really helpful to be able to get answers to specific questions.

I made a tool to automatically send the chapter links from AO3 subscription emails straight to my instapaper (so new chapters are ready to read on my Kobo automatically!) I was initially trying to accomplish this with a weird combination of AO3-RSS (create AO3 rss feed), FreshRSS (put all stories under one category with it's own feed), and feeds-to-instapaper (category feed sends new item when any story updates), but it just wasn't working since AO3 has heightened security against scrapers and bots. I was able to solve it by having the tool check my sub emails and send the chapter links instead of checking AO3. I was trying to solve this yesterday when I accidentally locked myself out of the server
("-ࡇ-)=3 It'll work for other sources too, but I don't have any other newsletters or anything. Plus, if content is being sent wholly by email, I could just use the instapaper account's email to receive it.

I fixed the tables to look better on mobile, and alsodrumroll please:I added comments to my medialog! This system doesn't rely on mastodon/fediverse, and I deliberately designed it that way since I don't want to have to create mastodon posts for every little book or game review post. If people choose to be nice and reply to a fedi post I make announcing a medialog, I can manually add those myself.

oh I also forgot aboutPhanpy, which I installed a few days ago. Well, that was barely harder than just typing a few commands and fixing the mapped ip address, and it worked right away. It's a very slick front-end for fediverse, I really like it so far. And it works on some really cool principles, like rendering on the client-side (your browser) so it doesn't tax the server as much. That's useful for me since I'm using a self-hosted hollo instance.

I think I got most of the webdev and other projects out of me lol. Recently, I implemented: The only thing I have left really is to maybe add a guest comments form for my ranobe blog? But that one isn't really necessary since Publii is a desktop CMS (I'd have to add the comments manually anyways), so it's not really worth it. I do have some aspirations of making fan shrines for my fav series, but I also think I'd like to learn a little more html styling/coding since I want those to be handmade and customized for each series.

So I think I may have figured out what the problem is with my Hollo install. It's been crashing because of too many requests locking parts of the database. I'm not sure why nobody else was dealing with this issue, but if my instance stays up without hanging, then hopefully problem solved! Then I'll post about the solution on the hollo github. btw all I did was add some extra postgres db command lines to the docker compose.yaml to prevent locking/deadlocks if it's taking too long, so that one request wins and the other dies. Very high noon-core.

I know we hate AI for stealing jobs and the life's work of any creator (rightly so), but when it comes to code/technical stuff like this, receiving personalized step-by-step advice can't be beat. Of course sometimes it hallucinates and is wrong, but it can usually be worked around by consulting official guides as well and changing the way you ask your questions.

So along with setting up FreshRSS, I wanted to try self-hosting some kind of fediverse instance even though it's ill advised (1). I've also seen that it can be dangerous as well, as single-user instances have an uphill battle fighting against harassment and bad actors (2). It was mostly out of curiosity and a desire to test the free google cloud VM before it expires. I managed to getHolloup and running after some trudging through SSH with Docker commands I barely understand. It worked! I managed to create an account and post a status. But the free tier VM that I was working with was not up to the task of running Hollo (not enough RAM). Maybe I could have tried a different software, something more lightweight like snac or GoToSocial but I was tired by that point. I shut it down afterwards. I'm quite satisfied with the mastodon instance that I'm on, but I also have this weird compulsion/interest in having my own instance. I might try hosting on a Raspberry Pi in the future. Anyways, I stayed up late last night to experiment with this stuff, and now I'm quite sleepy...

If you're reading this and you are subscribed to the rss feed of this site, please let me know so that I can add you! Doubly so if you have a microblog of your own ദ്ദി(｡•̀ ,<)~✩‧₊ I would love to follow you!

I finished watching the 2nd season of the One Piece Live Action yesterday, and it's been a fun watch, but I really wonder how far they'll get in this adaptation.Apparently they're aiming for the time skip as the stopping point but at the pace of 1 season every 2 years, it'll be a LONG while before they ever get there, nevermind if they even manage to avoid cancellation considering how expensive the show is.I appreciate them actually covering each arc though, and not just cutting whole arcs out.#fandom

I started this as a blog post and realized it's probably better as a "microblog". I was so exhausted at the end of last week that I decided not to do anything "productive" over the weekend. I hate to call it "burnout", because I feel like it's not as severe as true burnout. There's not anything that particularly triggered it, but maybe work stress has been building up gradually. When it gets to this point, I hardly want to do anything, including my hobbies. No reading, gaming, or writing. I just don't want to doanythingthat involves thinking. What does that leave me with? Watching things, mostly. I've been keeping up with theUltima Retrospectiveseries from Majuular, and he released a new one on Ultima VIII. It's 3 hours long, and a fascinating watch. I also caught up on the recent season of Bridgerton. If I had to rank the seasons: 2, 4, 1, 3. I didn't really like Colin as much, and Penelope deserved better during her season. I really liked Sophie as a character, so she beat out Daphne. I also watched some compilations of scenes from the game Dispatch. I'm definitely dabbling in the fandom, even though I've never played the game. At least I'm feeling a little better now.

I just completed Animal Well, and I'm honestly kind of mad that I couldn't finish the game on my own. I got 90% of the way there, but the last section of the game is so incredibly hard that I just couldn't do it. Of course, I guess this is why I don't play platformers and other games that rely on reaction timing and precision. I wish devs would at least implement some kind of accessibility or cheat that allows people to just finish the game.
